Divisions in My Dorm Room Op Ed series

When we were talking about creating a space for Trump supporters to have their voices heard on college campuses in the wake of the election, I stumbled across this pair of articles while reading other articles and I thought it was very thought provoking. I think the op ed published by the Trump supporter makes a very compelling argument, but I also think that it is very difficult to get to the world that she wants to see.

  1. Jo,

Thanks for posting these. I agree, I thought the two together were an interesting read and both presented compelling arguments. But I also found the Trump supporters article a little difficult to completely get behind. She argues that "the narrative should be one of inclusiveness, openness, respect and love. It is not only about making “America Great Again,” it is about making America home again." Yet she supported, however loosely, a candidate who ran on a platform that essentially told many Americans that America is not really their home. They're not really safe here. Though I can understand striving to abolish our us-vs-them politics, I'm really unclear as to how we are supposed to get there based on this article.
